ILM Operations/ Departmental Manager Level 5

Course overview:

The Level 5 Operations / Departmental Manager Apprenticeship is aimed at those who manage teams and projects in a broad range of organisations and industries and will enable learners to use core management techniques to drive better results, develop your ability leader, motivate and inspire and provide strategic leadership as well as day-to-day management.

So if you have a role that involves creating and delivering operational plans, managing projects, leading teams, managing change, resource management or coaching and mentoring this course will enhance your knowledge and hone your skills to help you progress in your career. It’s ideal for Operations Managers, Regional Managers, Divisional Managers, Department Managers and Specialist Managers.

The Diploma qualification maps fully to the ‘on-programme’ elements of the Operations/ Departmental Manager Apprenticeship Standard. As part of the Apprenticeship you will be required to hold or achieve the equivalent of L2 Functional Skills in English and MathsSuccessful completion of a full Operations/Departmental Manager apprenticeship programme, including the Diploma, Functional Skills requirement  Gateway and End Point Assessment.

This is an interactive and practical course which will take approximately 18 months to complete on a part-time basis. It will enable you to use core management techniques to drive better results, develop your ability to lead, motivate and inspire, provide strategic leadership as well as day-to-day management and help you to raise your profile in your organisation. You’ll attend regular study groups at our training centre and will be given assignments to complete in between these sessions along with professional observations in your workplace.

Government funding is available for the course – for those who are employed more than 30 hours a week and have lived in the UK or European Union in the last three years – and to receive this funding you’ll also study for functional skills in English and maths.

An Apprentice is expected to spend 20% of their working hours completing off the job training.

Course fee:

This course costs just £900 for non-levy paying employers, as the Government will fund £8,100 of the full £9,000 course fees for eligible staff. Large employers can fund the entire cost through the Apprenticeship Levy. Eligible staff are those who are employed for more than 16 hours a week and who have lived in the UK or European Union for the last three years.

Work & assessment

Learners will benefit from using ILM Solar – the new digital learning and assessment platform. Assessment is by workplace observations, practical tasks at work, answering questions and assignment writing plus an End Point Assessment which includes a portfolio, substantial project, knowledge test, interview and a professional discussion.

End Point Assessment

The project that needs to be completed by the end of the course will be agreed with the employer and is likely to take around five days to complete. It will be assessed by an external, independent assessor and requires Apprentices to document their assumptions, show their understanding of commercial pressures and apply thinking and problem solving skills.
